Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Fatehgarh Sahib, Hardial Singh Mann informed on Monday that a police team led by Fatehgarh Sahib SHO Devinder Attri arrested NRI Anup Singh Kahlon, a resident of Jandu Singh Wala village in Jalandhar, and his driver, Kulwinder Singh alias Roki, a resident of Nawa Shahar Badla village of SAS Nager, traveling in an Innova car near Mandofal village on Sunday.
The SSP said the police also recovered two fake driving licenses with Anup Singh's photo affixed on both; one had been in Chandigarh and other in Moga.
The police also recovered 4 live cartridges of .32 bore from Kulwinder Singh. During his current stay in India, he was putting up at Zirakpur in Punjab.
The police registered a case against them under Sections 21,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 420,467,468 and 471 of the IPC, along with charges under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Fatehgarh Sahib police station. They were produced in a Fatehgarh Sahib court on Monday.
Mann informed that during the interrogation the police learnt that Anup Singh, along with his family, settled in Canada in 1995. Initially, he was a truck driver, but later he got the permanent citizenship of Canada. Anup frequently visited India and had links with the drug mafia of Canada and India.
