Indo-Canadian man arrested in connection with armed robbery in Edmonton
( Nov 27 2009 )

The fourth man allegedly involved in a violent robbery in Edmonton, an Indo-Canadian, has been arrested.

Jujhar Singh Khun-Khun, 22, was arrested without incident on a Canada-wide warrant in Delta, B.C. for the robbery.

Two people had robbed a lone female employee at Edmonton’s R.K. Jewelers store at gunpoint on Sept 7. The two fled in a getaway car with a substantial amount of merchandise.

Khun-Khun was charged with robbery with a firearm, unlawful confinement, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, uttering threats and breach of recognizance. If convicted of these offences, the maximum punishment that is available under the Criminal Code is imprisonment for life.

He remains in the custody of Surrey RCMP, awaiting transfer to Edmonton.

EPS Robbery detectives had arrested two individuals earlier this month.

Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal, 23, was charged with being a party to the offence of robbery with a firearm, unlawful confinement and possession of a weapon.

Another male, whose age or identity can’t be released for legal reasons, was charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon and unlawful confinement.

The first suspect, Gagandeep Singh Rakhra, 20, was arrested on Sept. 28, 2009 for robbery, unlawful confinement and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence after a Canada wide warrant was issued for his arrest.

“Our success in concluding this investigation can be attributed to the long hours and hard work put in by the robbery detectives,” says Staff Sgt. Howard Kunce of EPS Robbery Section. “Also, inter-agency cooperation played an important role in our investigation.”

Khunkhun has been in the news earlier also when in 2007, a woman he was engaged to marry died after falling out the passenger side of a car he was driving. His wedding was planned after two weeks with 19 year old Sukhvir Kaur Grewal. No charges were ever laid.

At that time Khunkhun was on bail for an unrelated kidnapping charge. In November 2007, he was sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to kidnapping truck driver James Ford in May 2006.
