Shekhar Kapur announced his film Paani at Cannes in 2010 – but the film has yet to take off. Now the latest buzz is that Ranbir Kapoor will essay the lead in the film, replacing Hrithik Roshan.
A source said, “Shekhar had gone to Rajasthan where Ranbir was shooting for Ayaan Mukherji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Deepika Padukone, to speak to the actor about a fantasy film called Mantra. But since the script of the film was not even ready, Ranbir rejected the offer.”
However, when Ranbir expressed his interest in hearing the script of Paani, the filmmaker after discussing it at length with him in turn offered him the lead role. Apparently, originally Vivek Oberoi was slated to play the lead role in the film. While Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor were unavailable for comment, Shekhar replied to our text message saying, “Not true.”
“Press asking why I’ve been seen with Ranbir Kapoor. I really enjoy listening to him. Future of Indian Cinema safe in this breed of new stars,” added Kapur
